User onboarding flow template
Onboarding flows are usually described in a doc as a list of screens, which hides the two things that matter: where people can drop out, and which steps are optional. This template shows the path from landing page to first value in three phases, with the skip path for the tour drawn in.
Opens instantly as a new diagram in the workspace, without using an AI action and without touching your existing diagrams. No account needed.

What is in the template
- Signup phase
- Landing page → create account → verify email. Email verification is the first drop-off point worth measuring.
- Setup phase
- Choose a workspace name, then the "Take the tour?" decision: the tour is optional and both branches land in the same empty workspace.
- Activation phase
- Create the first project → invite a teammate → first value moment. Name the "first value moment" for your product; it is the step everything else exists for.
- Left-to-right layout
- Phases read as columns, which fits a slide or a wide doc. Ask for top-to-bottom if you prefer.
The description that made it
Template prompt
A product onboarding flow from sign-up to first project, including email verification and a skip path for the tour.
Templates are stored as finished diagrams, so opening one never calls the AI. The prompt above is what you would type to get a similar result from scratch.
Good for
Product onboarding, self-serve signup design, activation reviews, handoffs between marketing and product.
Ways to make it yours
Open the template, then type any of these into the chat. Each one is a single AI action and produces a new version you can undo.
- "Add a payment step after verification with a failed-payment path back to the form."
- "Add a branch for users who sign up with Google and skip email verification."
- "Insert an in-app checklist between the empty workspace and the first project."
- "Mark the steps where we send an email."
- "Rename 'first value moment' to 'first report shared'."
Direction (top-to-bottom or left-to-right), theme, export and share links never use actions.
What it costs to keep going
- Guest: 5 AI actions to try it, up to 3 diagrams saved in this browser, PNG and SVG export with a small chatplot.io mark.
- Free account (Google sign-in): 10 AI actions every month, unlimited diagrams synced to your account, exports with the mark.
- Pro: $15 per month or $144 per year, 500 AI actions a month, exports without the mark, PNG up to 3× resolution.
One AI action = one create or edit request that produces a diagram. Failed requests are not charged; templates, history, direction and theme changes, exports and share links never use actions. Team and Enterprise plans are not available. Full pricing.
